One of the interesting things about having an election is that it puts people’s values on display. Suddenly, we need to consider , perhaps air, and finally vote on our opinions about such issues as climate change and how we treat refugees.
Whether or not the election result went the way we wanted it to, it’s a great opportunity to consider, clarify and finally act on those values as an individual.
I’ve discovered, through this process, that I feel quite strongly about our environment and about caring about other people. So now I’m looking around at what I can do in my house, neighbourhood and family. Can I turn off more lights and appliances? Can I give someone a boost where it’s needed? What can I do, to paraphrase Abe Lincoln, with what I have, where I am?
Politics is, after all, personal.
I’d be interested to hear if you found this as well- and what you might do about it.
